James Dewar
James Dewar

(1842-1923)

James Dewar was a British scientist who studied hydrogen, also called in the early days, "phlogiston." He was the first to make liquid hydrogen. Next time you're on a picnic or take a thermos of coffee along on an early-morning fishing trip, thank Dewar. He invented the vacuum bottle that today we call the thermos!
